Rangers, A's resume series in Arlington

Baseball Betting Lines

05/10/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Texas Rangers will try to continue their hot play when they take on the Oakland Athletics this evening in the middle matchup of a three-game set at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

In order for the Rangers to extend their winning streak to five games, the team will have to rely on Kevin Millwood, who has struggled as of late. Millwood, who is just 2-3 with a 4.94 ERA on the season, is coming off his worst performance of the year, as the righthander surrendered seven runs on nine hits in only three innings of work. The lackluster effort led to a 7-3 loss for Texas against Seattle.

In his last three starts, Millwood is 1-1 and has allowed 17 runs on 24 hits in 15 1/3 innings of work. The 33-year-old has not faced the A's this season, but the righthander is just 3-3 in 10 career starts with a 4.34 ERA against them.

Although the A's were defeated last night by the Rangers, Oakland has won four of its last five games and will send Dana Eveland to the hill in hopes of returning the squad back to the win column.

Eveland is one of the main reasons for Oakland's surprising success this year, as the southpaw heads into this matchup with a 3-2 record and a solid 3.05 ERA. The 24-year-old is coming off a tremendous showing against Baltimore, as he held the Orioles scoreless in seven innings of work. Eveland scattered three hits in the game and struck out four batters, but finished with a no decision.

The young hurler has never faced the Rangers in his brief career.

Yesterday, Brandon Boggs went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and the Rangers pitching staff recorded their third consecutive shutout with a 4-0 victory over the Athletics.

The Rangers, who defeated Seattle 5-0 and 4-0 in their previous two games, have not allowed a run in 31 straight innings, the second longest streak in franchise history.

Scott Feldman (1-1), making just his third career start, was once again a pleasant surprise, tossing six innings and allowing just two hits and four walks for the upstart Rangers. Jamey Wright, Joaquin Benoit and C. J. Wilson finalized the shutout with an inning of scoreless relief each.

Josh Hamilton was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Texas, which has won four in a row and eight of its last 10.

Greg Smith (2-2), who had allowed two runs or less in each of his previous three starts, was touched for four runs on six hits and two walks in six innings for the A's, who snapped a four-game win streak.

Oakland failed to record an extra-base hit, as Jack Cust tallied two of club's four singles.

Texas took two of three from the A's last week at McAfee Coliseum and went 6-3 against Oakland in Arlington last season.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
